2nd X1  v  Frankton  30th August 2014     -      Steve Cansdale Reports

Match Ball Sponsors: Chris Prince and Neil Thomas (MCC Club Members)

On a very overcast day, Frankton won the toss and opted to bowl. As per usual
Frankton fielded a very young but enthusiastic side.
Chris Birkett and Alex Dillon opened for Madeley, and it was after only two balls
that Chris was on his way back, 0-1. In form Lee Standell was next, and it didn't
take him long to start scoring, pushing the score along to 30 before Alex was
caught behind for 9, 30-2. Rising star Mick Roberts soon got into flow along with
Lee and they put on 22 before Lee went, caught yet again for 33. 52-3. Jamie
Lloyd was in better form this week and was looking good at the stumps when his
partner Mick Roberts was also caught behind for 15. 67-4. But the partnership of
the day went to Jamie Lloyd and Lewis Davies who put on a brilliant 88 when
Jamie was caught for 32. 155-5. Lewis and Dan Kearsley saw the innings through,
with Lewis being 51 not out and Dan 8 not out. 171-5.

With Frankton only having 10 players, it looked as though the seconds may be
able to get a result. But once again the fielding from the Madeley side was dismal.
Very lack lustre and non effective.
James Ellis was the first of Franktons batsmen to go, with the score at 44 when he
was caught behind by Chris Birkett from Loll Woodhall's bowling. Hoping that
this was the break through that they needed Madeley continued on their task.
Once again, poor fielding allowed Frankton to get too 118when Andrew Main was
caught by a fairly comfortable catch by Mick Roberts from Loll Woodhall, 138-3.
From then on it was a piece of cake for Frankton, with only one more wicket taken
when Loll Woodhall seemed to grow two feet and and took a catch off of Liam
Kearsley 159-4. Easy peasy from then, when the winning run was hit after only
37.4 overs. Loll Woodhall finished on 10ov 1m 28r 3w. With only three games left,
Madeley really need to beat bottom placed Lilleshall next week.
