2nd X1  v  Alberbury  5th July 2014     -      Steve Cansdale Reports

Match Ball Sponsors: Ash Pike (Ashley's Building Maintenance), Ivan Pike (Telford Garage Doors)

The seconds welcomed Alberbury seconds to a very important must win match.
On a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon Alberbury won the toss and put Madeley into bat.
In form opening bat Chris Birkett opened with Simon Woodcock, with hopes of another
steady innings from him, but unfortunately, this only lasted seven balls, as he played
a forward defensive block, only for the ball to fly high, and he was caught. 0-1.
Callum Hodson, who has been in very fine form of late joined "Woody" at the crease,
and the two of them settled in well, pushing the score to 43 before "Woody" was caught.
Another stalwart of Madeley "Jamie Lloyd" was next in , but the partnership didn't last
long as Callum was bowled by Shropshire Ladies bowler "Katie Green". Lewis Davies
also fell foul to Katie in the same over, and walked back to the pavvy for 0. 49-4.
Jamie was looking for some support from the middle order, but it was not to happen.
Even though a partnership of 27 with Mick Roberts, Mick decided he was Usain Bolt
and went for a very close run, and was run out. The bowler got in my way said "Mick" ?
Jamie Lloyd was next to going after being caught. 81-6, quickly followed by Dominic
Simms who was also caught. 81-7.
Loll Woodhall was accompanied by Lucas Bladen at the crease, and the two of them
pushed the score nicely to a more respectful score, before Lucas was caught behind
for 10. 103-8. Even though Loll tried to keep the strikers end it wasn't long before Charlie
Rudge and Loll playing a captains innings (29) were on their way back to the Pavvy. 134-10

Alberbury started in fine batting form, scoring 98 before the loss of their first wicket. What
didn't help, was the atrocious fielding and catching (or non catching) from Madeley. David
Whitehouse was caught by Simon Woodcock off of Nathan simms, 98-1. Followed not long
after by Jamie Brooks, LBW by Nathan Simms.103-2. Alex Hughes (77) was dropped at least
six times by Madeley, and with some lucky nicks was eventually stumped by Lucas Bladen off
of Callum Hodson, 103-3. The only other wicket Madeley managed to take, was when Callum
Hodson ran out Toby Bird, with a superb long distance throw.
Madeley could no longer find a breakthrough, and Alberbury finished at 137-4. A very easy
six wicket win.
