2nd X1  v  Shelton  13th June 2009         Report by  -    Lee Standell

On a pretty warm and wonderful day at Park Street Madeley welcomed Shelton to HQ. On what looked a terrific pitch skipper Sam Norman won the toss and decided to bat. Things got off to a good start with Boss opening with Sam Hathaway (Barry Chuckle) who was dropped from the 1st XI late on Friday night, putting on a good opening stand of 39, until Sam was given LBW. Boss continuing his good form with 30 was then next to fall with a debatable decision. Micky Roberts was then next to the crease and looked good, playing some wonderful drives but fell for 23 chipping straight to extra cover. No one else got into double figures as Madeley struggled with some fantastic bowling from T.Ellis 8 overs 4-8 and D.Harrison 8 overs 3-33. Madeley were all out for 113 from 38.5 overs, a disappointing performance but still had confidence in winning the game.

Shelton's innings then began, also starting off well with with a stand of 24. Then 3 wickets fell without a run being scored which put the visitors in trouble with Madeley's opening bowlers Shaun (landlord) Rigby and Harry Thomas firing on all cylinders. 1st change Jason (Face) Willets then came in the fray and bowled as we all know he can rather than 'that day at Reman'. With wickets a regular occurrence Madeley hauled themselves into a fantastic position. With only two batsmen reaching notable scores Shelton were dismissed for 95 which wasn't to be expected on what looked a good pitch, A.Jackson 22 and D.Harrison 16 who were both lower order were the main contributors. Madeley's bowlers were excellent from start to finish with S.Rigby 8 overs 3-33, J.Willets 8 overs 4-8 and skipper S.Norman a late cameo picking up 2-8 from 3 overs.

After such a disappointment with the bat and the loss at Reman the 2nd XI showed tremendous 'bouncebackability' (for all soccer am fans out there) and bowled and fielded brilliantly and picked up another 20 points. A Nice trip to Newtown now beckons on saturday.

Man Of The Match: J.Willets And S.Rigby.
