2nd X1  v  Broseley  23rd May 2009         Report by  -    Lee Standell

On a very sunny and hot day Madeley 2nds welcomed Broseley to HQ. After a fantastic start to the season the Madeley team boasted a strong batting line up with doubts over the bowling attack which were soon to be ignored. After looking at the conditions of the pitch Captain Sam Norman lost the toss and was put into a bat in which both teams were looking to bowl first.
Madeley opened up with Boss and Sam Hathaway and made what couldn't have been a better start (including 6 wides in the first over), with Boss attacking the Broseley bowlers and Sam just staying there and picking off the bad balls. Boss was riding his luck with a few nicks and drops and was also caught off a no ball. However the opening partnership was halted after Sam had to slide in on a quick run but hit his face on his helmet which resulted in him having to retire. Micky Roberts then came to the crease and fell cheaply as Boss continued. Then Jason Willets came in and hit a quick fire 24, before falling.  Boss's innings eventually ended on 65 which will hopefully hold him in good stead for the rest of the campaign and included some excellent shots. Two wickets then fell quickly as Sam Hathaway returned and continued from where he left off ending up on 39 not out which was a fantastic innings. There was also a late cameo from the skipper which was 15 not out including a massive 6 towards the bowls green. Broseley's bowlers didn't enjoy their 50 overs in the field with their captain L.Boden having the most joy with 2-44 from 14 overs. Madeley then finished on 195 - 6 from 50 overs.
Broseley then began their innings but got off to a bad start thanks to very good spells from Lee Bowen and Jason Willets showing how to use a new ball. Broseley never really got started with only two batsmen showing some sort of resistance, A. Hollinshead 19 and G. Bagley 19. With Lee Bowen tiring the skipper took him off and brought himself on and wickets continued to fall with everyone in the field taking catches from Lee Allen (miami) taking 2, Glenn Robson (one handed) and Micky Roberts on the 3rd jump. After 26 overs Broseley were dismissed for 81 with fantastic figures from J.Willets 13 overs, 5 - 24 ( still managed to avoid a jug) and S.Norman (see M.Roberts for nickname) 7 overs, 3 for 29.
All round this was a fantastic performance from start to finish, special mention to Ron Lloyd and Glenn Robson (the eve of Newcastle's relegation) for playing and a terrific double for MCC.
Men Of The Match: J.Willets And S.Warrilow (Boss).
