2nd X1  v  Wem  2nd August 2008                       Report from Chris Hodson

This week a totally new look team from last week travelled to Wem for what was going to be a tough game of cricket. To be fair to Wem their track looked a beauty and both captains had decided they were going to bat first. Keeping in tradition of the season Oddy lost the toss and the home team batted. Surprisingly wickets fell at regular times and the home team really limped along to 133 - 8 off their 50 overs thanks to some good bowling from Kieran "Pepe" Richards (2 wickets), Rodney Dunn (4 wickets) and Chris Hodson (2 wickets). They were backed up in the field with some great diving stops especially from Verby. Sam Norman also deserves a special note for not actually throwing up although he was very close 3 or 4 times. Two dropped catches occurred and looking back they may have been costly but in all honesty we all thought it was a 200 track.

What followed from the Madeley boys was a comedy show. After a good start with 10 off the first over, 4 wickets were lost in approx 2 overs with the score still less than 20. Madeley staggered to 81 all out and the least we say about our batting display the better as it really was not very good and an immediate improvement will be needed next week against Wenlock. Only Oddy (21) Rodney (18) and Verb (16) reached double figures.
