2nd X1  v  Wem  17th May 2008

This week Madeley entertained Wem who last season were relegated from the
Birmingham League. When the visitors won the toss Madeley were asked to
bat first on a drying wicket. Boss and Woody opened the batting and put
together an excellent partnership of 70 in very difficult conditions with the
game being interrupted several times due to rain.

It was to become a 38 over game and Madeley completed their innings on
170 - 2 thanks to knocks from Boss who scored a fine 82, Woody who scored 30
and the skipper who finished on 40 not out. Boss' knock was quality and if
he continues he will score a lot of runs  and with Woody as his partner up
front the innings should start with some good momentum.

170 was a good score and when Wem batted their opener was the only batsman
to show any intent to try and get anywhere near our score. When he fell
quite early Wem completely shut up shop and the game ground to a very boring

Sam Hathaway, Sam Norman, Lloydy, Oddy and Joe Dawes all bowled well without
any real success.

Madeley ended the day with 11 points compared to our visitors who ended with
only 1.

Much Wenlock away next week.
