2nd X1  v  Ludlow  26th April 2008

After securing the championship last year Madeley 2nd X1 opened their title
defence against Ludlow at a wet Burway ground. Skipper Chris Hodson lost the
toss and was invited to bat in a reduced overs game. Wickets fell at
regular intervals but Madeley managed to accumulate 161 runs for the loss of 7 wickets thanks to good knocks from Chris Hodson, Simon Woodcock and Ben Bates. Madeley's batting looked
pretty secure and wickets were lost mainly to the slowness of the wicket.
On a damp wicket 161 looked a good score.

In the field Chris Hodson  and Sam Norman opened the bowling.
Both bowled good lines and Oddy was rewarded with a 5 wicket haul. Sam
also bowled well taking his first two wickets of the season, Oddy finished
with figures of 13 overs 8 maiden 5 wickets for 15 runs.
Dan Barton took his first wicket after bowling good lines and Ludlow
completed their innings on 125-9.

Madeley could not take the last wicket having bowled two overs at the last
pair but were happy enough with their 14 point haul.

Newtown next week.
