1st X1  v  Shelton  9th Sept 2006

Madeley travelled to Shelton looking to return with a decent amount of points. They were not to be disappointed as they managed to gain only their third win of the season.

The afternoon didn't start too well with the home side 149 - 1 after 35 overs. However what looked like a formidable total didn't materialise as the two main run getters were both caught at long on by Pete Smith off Rico's bowling. With the skipper also bowling a tidy spell, together with appropriate field placings, the score was kept down to 204 - 8 when Shelton declared at the end of the 49th over.

In reply Madeley got off to  a poor start with both openers out in the first 4 overs. The score was 9 - 2 but this brought together Rico and Verbal who shared in the best partnership of the innings.

Rico chose his last innings to be his best. It seemed that he was on his way to a century so it was a surprise when he was bowled with his score on 81.

With Pete Smith and Jason Willets both falling cheaply a further 66 runs were required with only 4 wickets remaining. In stepped Steve "The Kid" Maden who scored 52 of those runs to take Madeley to victory

Verbal had applied himself well and made a valuable 49 in an innings lasting just over 2 hours.

This was a valuable 20 points for Madeley all the more so as the team will be down to the bare bones for the remaining two games. It is also important that the fielding improves as this will surely cost us dearly in the future if not put right.
