After winning the toss Madeley skipper Simon
Woodcock invited Shelton to first use of a good looking track.
Shelton's start was slow and after 10 overs the
scored had crawled at snails pace to 15 for 0. Good bowling by Kieran Richards
and Sam Hathaway kept the runs to a minimum. After Sam completed his allotted six overs Chris Hodson came on and struck in his third over.
The score at this
point was 30 for 1.
Madeley continued to battle hard and little really happened
until the 35th over when Shelton decided enough was enough and the onslaught
began. After 45 overs Shelton's innings was completed with the score
195 for 7. Chris Hodson was the main wicket taker with 4 - 56 off his 15
Madeley's reply was not helped with the loss of two
early wickets and at one point the score was a sorry looking 4 - 2 with only 4 overs
gone. Some repair work was necessary and Chris Hodson
and Kev Walters stopped the rot taking the score onto 90 when
Chris was out for 56.
Kev continued to bat on and held up one end magnificently, richly deserving to be 60 not out at the end of play.
The final score was 185
- 7 thanks to a good stand at the end with Kieron Richards who also batted well.
This was just ten runs short of the target but it was a good effort
considering the poor start.
Madeley's plight was not helped with only having ten men and thanks goes out to
Paul Holland who was called up at the last minute to play, It is the auld enemy
(Broseley) next week and a full quota of players will be required so if there is
anyone who can play next weekend let Loll Woodhall or Steve Maden know asap. We
