Report 1 from Chris Hodson
After once again losing the toss Madeley batted
first on a very green looking pitch.
Kev Walters faced the first ball which spat up off a
good length and every one thought "Here we go".
Kev and Jonny Fawcett took the game to the hosts
and compiled a good opening stand until John tried to glide one through to third
man only to wake the slip fielder up who held onto a sharp chance. This brought
Chris Hodson to the crease who hung around for many overs trying to keep one end
together. Kev raced to his fifty playing some great shots and it was good to see
him play with plenty of confidence until on exactly 50 he played one shot too many
and holed out at covers but well done Kev.
The rest of the batting order came and went without
really pushing the score on that much and in the 41st over Hoddy went for a make
or break single and was run out by a direct hit - i bet he doesnt do that
again!!!!!! I know who my money was on (Editor)
Madeley finished on 163 all out possibly 20 - 30
Albrighton's innings started with an edge through
the slips and continued in similar vein, both openers pushed their luck with many
edges. The score had moved
on to 102 - 2 and things were looking bleak when Graham "oggy" Barker and Chris
Hodson came on and in the next 10 overs swung the game back to Madeley. With the
score on 140 - 7 could we snatch a victory?
On 152 Madeley took another wicket and were pushing
hard for victory but with a few wides and edges the score was nudged along to 158 - 9 with the
last pair at the wicket. Finally Sam Norman came up trumps when he rattled the stumps and Madeley had won by 5
runs. It was too close for comfort but we had snatched what looked at one point as an unlikely victory.
Next week we must concentrate on the batting and
ensure we reach over 200 to continue our push to possibly win the league, We
have the team to do it and the belief lets get out there and do it.
